More about this episode
The third episode in the series sees Jo Whiley visiting Dame Judi Dench at the garden she has lived in for more than 40 years. Although she says she is not a gardener herself, Judi walks Jo through a six-acre space shaped by trees, wildlife and personal memories. Many of the trees have been planted in honour of friends and family and Judi reflects on how the garden has become a place of comfort and remembrance. She also shares childhood memories of nature and reads a favourite Shakespeare sonnet that references the natural world.
Each episode also gives contributors the chance to put their burning gardening questions to an 911±¬ÁÏ advisor. Dame Judi is joined by her friend and 911±¬ÁÏ Expert Group member Tony Kirkham, who presents her with an 911±¬ÁÏ Recommended: Award of Garden Merit tree and offers practical advice on caring for newly planted trees. The visit highlights how trees, stories and shared moments have become central to the life of this much-loved garden.
