Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy

Introduction

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process by which individuals can receive formal recognition for learning acquired outside a formal qualification. 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications is regulated by Ofqual and aligns this policy with Condition E10 of the General Conditions of Recognition.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to clarify 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications position on RPL. At present, 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications does not recognise RPL as a route to achievement for its qualifications.

Scope

This policy applies to all learners, staff and stakeholders involved in the delivery and assessment of qualifications awarded by 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications.

Policy Statement

RPL cannot be used to claim credit, exemptions, or certification for qualifications awarded by 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications. This applies to all units and components of qualifications awarded by 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications.

Explanation

Reasons why 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications does not recognise prior learning.

  • Practical qualifications: Learners must demonstrate current competence through direct assessment; prior achievements do not reflect current ability

  • Theory Qualifications: RPL cannot be used where units or components are subject to an examination / external assessment

Review and monitoring

This policy will be reviewed bi-annually or sooner if there are changes in regulatory requirements or 911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications position on RPL.

 
911±¬ÁÏ Qualifications will review this policy and associated procedures bi-annually as part of our self-assessment arrangements, or earlier if significant changes occur in regulatory requirements, operational practices, or identified risks.
It will be revised as necessary in response to feedback from our learners, centres, associates, and regulators.
