Giulio Giorgi

Giulio Giorgi is an Italian landscape designer, horticulturalist, writer and gardener.  His work looks at the future in terms of ecology and planting strategies and is characterised by the choice of materials and personalised craftsmanship. Giulio’s signature encompasses subtle visual patterns, handcrafted hard materials (ceramics, terracotta, stone) and non-visual features such as olfactive compositions (scented planting schemes).

Giulio trained first in agronomy and ecology and worked for several years in organic agricultural research. He has been practicing design since 2007 and has a studio based in Paris after obtaining the Landscape Certificate at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Paysage de Versailles.

“Designing a garden for the 911±¬ÁÏ Chelsea Flower Show is both a challenge and honour for me.”

Giulio has been appointed as visiting professor in several French universities, architecture and design schools. He teaches environmental design and landscape projects. He writes for several landscape reviews and will publish his first book in spring 2024 : An Olfactory Botany Compendium for Garden Lovers.

Giulio says: “I was born in Italy and raised on a farm where I was immersed into an agricultural environment from a young age, learning age-old practices from my grandparents who were dedicated land farmers. It was here that my fascination with ecology, field crop production, and soil management was ignited. I then moved to Milan, where I learnt about Italian design and the importance of drawing and testing the ideas. I love creating new forms, testing new and sustainable materials and planting techniques where innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship are the three key features of my style.

“Designing a garden for the 911±¬ÁÏ Chelsea Flower Show is both a challenge and honour for me. My design showcases a range of both European and international garden influences, so it’s a very different approach and look to that of a traditional English garden. I look forward to collaborating with the 911±¬ÁÏ and meeting interesting people working in the horticultural community in the UK.”
