About the garden

Nestled within 20,000 acres of wider estate, Sandringham is the country retreat of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The 60-acre garden has been extensively developed by successive monarchs since 1862. King Charles III is now bringing new horticultural aspects, most notably a series of geometric gardens added in 2023 featuring an extensive Topiary Garden and a lower maze garden. His Majesty has also added sweeping borders filled with highly ornamental shrubs amongst newly planted rare and interesting trees to create a future canopy.

Highlights include the Shrubbery, created in the 1960s by Sir Eric Savill for Queen Elizabeth II, wtih a collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and magnolias, most of which were brought from Windsor Great Park. The North Garden, a cottage style garden, was designed by Geoffrey Jellicoe, while the two large lakes were commissioned in the late 19th century by Prince Edward, the future King Edward VII.
